The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) said that Thomas Richard Pennington, one of the state's 10 most wanted criminals, was caught in Austin. The arrest happened on January 14, 2025, after the DPS Criminal Investigations Division worked to make it happen.
Copperas Cove, Texas, resident Pennington, 39, was wanted for a number of major crimes, such as aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, and assault causing bodily injury. According to his criminal record, he has been convicted of burglary of habitation and possession of a controlled drug since 2014.
DPS says that Pennington was meant to be arrested by the Copperas Cove Police Department on August 30, 2024, for assault causing bodily harm. On October 25, 2024, more warrants were issued in Coryell County for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and illegal possession of a firearm by a criminal.
Pennington, who went by other names like Tommy Pennington and Lucky, was caught in Austin after months of eluding the police. The DPS is still asking the public for help in finding people on its "Most Wanted" list who are on the run.
This arrest shows how hard Texas police are working to keep the public safe by catching criminals on the run.
