Major Fire in Central Austin Leads to Traffic Gridlock

AUSTIN—On Saturday night, the Austin Fire Department responded to a balcony fire at a residential building in the 3500 block of Speedway, which closed Speedway between 35th and 38th Streets.

Fire personnel promptly contained and extinguished the fire that was reported on a third-floor balcony.

A spokesperson for the fire department expressed gratitude for the firefighters' prompt response, which enabled them to extinguish the fire before it spread further.

The fire, which was also posted on social media, warned the public of gridlock in the area. 

Authorities advised the public to avoid the area while personnel worked to clear the scene and evaluate any potential damage.

The fire department's social media post underscored the significance of avoiding blocked roadways to guarantee safety and facilitate the efficient operation of emergency services.

The incident has not resulted in any reported injuries, and the cause of the fire is currently being investigated. The residents in the vicinity were relieved by the expeditious resolution of the situation.
