In the Brentwood neighborhood of North Austin, the City of Austin Housing Department, Saigebrook Development, and O-SDA Industries commemorated the opening of June West, a mixed-income affordable housing complex that is designed to address the diverse requirements of the community. The 80-unit development, situated at 1200 W. Koenig Lane, offers studio to three-bedroom apartments to households that earn between 30% and 80% of the area's median income..
The initiative is indicative of Austin's commitment to sustainable and accessible housing solutions, as it receives support from the Austin Housing Finance Corporation (AHFC) and additional funding through loans and tax credits. A cyber lounge, fitness center, bicycle parking, and children's playroom are among the amenities available. The common areas are completely accessible, and the units are adaptable to ensure inclusivity.
Mandy DeMayo, interim director of the Housing Department, stated, "This development is consistent with our objective of offering affordable housing options to all Austinites."
June West also integrates local art, exhibiting murals by Austin artists such as Priscilla Lustig and Jonas Criscoe, to inject a creative element into the community. The project adheres to Austin's S.M.A.R.T. Housing standards, which emphasizes its dedication to energy efficiency and sustainability.
