Governor Greg Abbott of Texas has announced a $10,000 reward for information that results in the apprehension of Seth Altman, 33, who is currently one of the most sought-after fugitives in the state. Altman is accused of shooting and severely injuring Memphis Police Chief Rex Plant during an attempted arrest on Thursday night.
Authorities issued a Blue Alert early Friday morning, imploring the public to report any sightings of Altman, who is still on the run. Altman was included in the 10 Most Wanted Fugitives List by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS). He is sought for the attempted capital assassination of a peace officer.
The incident occurred when Chief Plant and another officer attempted to serve Altman with an arrest warrant for burglary. Altman allegedly fired a weapon and fled, resulting in a severe injury to Chief Plant. According to reports, the police superintendent was transported to a Lubbock hospital and is currently in stable condition.
Governor Abbott underscored the state's dedication to law enforcement and encouraged anyone with information regarding Altman's whereabouts to submit an anonymous report or contact Texas Crime Stoppers. "Law enforcement officers put their lives on the line to protect us, and they deserve our full support," indicated Abbott. "We are committed to bringing this criminal to justice."
Altman was still at large as of Friday evening. The public is advised by authorities not to approach him, as he is regarded as armed and dangerous.
Altman was last observed donning jeans and a blue shirt. Texas Crime Stoppers encourages individuals with information to submit reports to the hotline or call 911 immediately.
