President Kelly Damphousse of Texas State University recently addressed a campus demonstration in which two men, who are not affiliated with the university, carried signs that displayed "homophobic and misogynistic messages." The protest, which occurred on Wednesday afternoon, included signs that considered women to be property and condemned homosexuality as sinful. One of the signs featured a religious website.

The university's website published Damphousse's response on Thursday, emphasizing that this behavior directly opposes Texas State's core values. He stated, "The behavior we observed runs so contrary to the values that we hold at TXST — that we respect and value others and believe all Bobcats belong here." He also noted that such messages generate confusion, fear, and anxiety.

The demonstration, which drew a throng of students, faculty, and staff and lasted approximately one hour, was overseen by the university police.
