Texas Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian is negotiating a juggling act most college football programs would wish for. Sarkisian has to concentrate on high school recruitment and the approaching NCAA Transfer Portal window while the SEC Championship looms over Georgia on Saturday.

Early signing for Texas is set to produce a top-5 recruiting class starting on Wednesday. Per 247sports, the Longhorns are anticipated to ink 22 recruits—four five-star standouts: Galveston Ball safety Jonah Williams, Sachse wide receiver Kaliq Lockett, Pleasant Grove edge rusher Lance Jackson, and Jacksonville wide receiver Jaime Ffrench.

Though National Signing Day is exciting, the launch of the NCAA Transfer Portal adds difficulty. Monday marks the start of the 19-day window, and Texas's protracted deep postseason campaign may complicate matters of transfer needs by delaying clarity on possible player departures. Though the portal market gets more competitive when Texas plays, Sarkisian needs to be more concerned.

"We have to strike the proper balance since we are recruiting, prepping, and game-plan development," Sarkisian said Monday. We are lucky, as I would much prefer to be playing Saturday than watching teams play Saturday.

Texas gives building depth a top priority, unlike programs primarily dependent on portal recruits. The approach of Sarkisian shows faith in long-term player growth instead of short fixes.

Although there are great expectations, Sarkisian sees the logistical challenges as a luxury. The Longhorns are not just vying for titles but also laying a basis for ongoing excellence as they get ready for Georgia.

Success on Saturday for Texas might translate into a possible College Football Playoffs run, therefore reinforcing the program's positive direction.
