Resonance Consultancy's 2025 "World's Best Cities" list puts Austin at number 53. Austin was once hailed as one of the world's top 50 places. The drop is a big change for the Texas capital, which had been ranked 43rd for two years in a row.

Other Texas towns did better. For example, Dallas went from 73rd to 55th and Houston went from 66th to 40th. London, New York, Paris, Tokyo, and Singapore all took the top places around the world.

According to Resonance Consultancy, Austin's decline is due to fewer people needing office space because of the rise of remote work and continued problems with housing affordability, even though home prices have gone down a little. Austin's housing is still one of the most expensive in the U.S., which makes the city less appealing overall.

Even with these problems, the city kept its top spot in a number of important global areas. The University of Texas at Austin helped it get to the 13th spot in both Parks & Recreation and Educational Attainment. Austin also became known for having a strong business community. Big companies like Whole Foods and Tesla are based there.

Even though the city has problems, its cultural and educational strengths make it a well-known place to visit around the world.
