MANOR— Former Manor High School standout Jamal Shead returned to his old stomping grounds less than two months after being drafted by the Toronto Raptors.

Students, faculty, and community members eagerly attended the event at Manor High to pay tribute to the local hero. Shead was back to commemorate his achievements and inspire the next generation of athletes.

“I am appreciative to be back at Manor and to recognize so many familiar faces,” Shead stated during the ceremony.

He continued to say that he is grateful for this community's unwavering support and eager to reciprocate by motivating young athletes to pursue their aspirations.

The Raptors selected Shead in the second round of the NBA Draft. He was a standout player at Manor before making ripples at the University of Houston.

His transition from a small-town participant to a professional athlete is a testament to the power of hard work and determination.

Shead shared anecdotes from his high school years during the occasion, underscoring the significance of resilience and commitment.

It was not easy as Shead also faced obstacles. However, Shead shares how he acquired the ability to persevere and said, "I want you to remember that every setback presents an opportunity for a comeback."

During the ceremony, Shead was acknowledged for his contributions to the Manor basketball program.

Coach Mike Williams took pride in Shead's accomplishments, stating, "Jamal has always been a role model for our players, and his success shows what is possible with hard work and perseverance."

Shead is dedicated to motivating the youth of Manor to pursue their passions both on and off the court as he begins his professional career.
