The Austin Police Department (APD) has issued safety rules to guarantee that Halloween is a safe holiday for families and adults this year. These guidelines were given as Halloween activities began around Austin.

The Atlanta Police Department recommends that parents with children out trick-or-treating plan a safe route, bring flashlights, and ensure their children's costumes and props are secure and visible. Parents must tell their children not to enter strangers' homes or automobiles, stay away from areas that are not well-lit, and check any candy before consuming it. APD also emphasizes the significance of observing traffic regulations, avoiding jaywalking, and using sidewalks to lessen the likelihood of being involved in an accident.

The Atlanta Police Department recommends that residents who are hosting trick-or-treaters switch on their porch lights and remove any potential hazards from their front yards. They also ask motorists to be on the lookout for children passing through the streets.

The Austin Police Department strongly emphasizes the safety of costumes and fire precautions for adults celebrating Halloween in Austin's entertainment districts, particularly on Sixth Street. It is anticipated that more cross-street closures and barricades will be implemented, and vehicles will be prohibited from using Sixth Street between Brazos Street and Red River Street. On the evening of Halloween, traffic restrictions will be implemented as early as six o'clock, and parked vehicles along Sixth Street will be towed to ensure the community's safety.

Additionally, the Austin Police Department advises that exits on Interstate 35 may close due to the high traffic volume. Anyone whose vehicle has been towed can identify it by entering its license plate number or vehicle identification number (VIN) on the Auto Return website.
