The Austin Independent School District (AISD) has initiated the process of terminating the employment of a first-grade teacher who was arrested on charges of unlawful restraint. The teacher was employed at Reilly Elementary School in Austin. As a result of an event that included a pupil, the educator, Luis Erasmo Resendiz Alvarado, is facing a felony accusation that may land him in state jail.
The arrest affidavit, which CBS Austin received, provides specifics of the incident that occurred on September 11 and resulted in Alvarado being placed on administrative leave. As stated in the affidavit, the surveillance tape that was taken from outside Alvarado's classroom door shows him using force to unlock the door while a student was behind it. As the kid spoke to other students in the classroom, Alvarado allegedly leaned into the door and repeatedly jabbed it, giving the impression that he was trying to keep the student held down.
Although Alvarado made eye contact through the door window, the student reported to the investigators that he did not quit making eye contact. In a subsequent interview, Alvarado confirmed that he knew the pupil was hiding behind the door. He also admitted that he had trapped the child and explained that he was feeling frustrated due to personal family concerns.
During the course of the investigation that was carried out by the Austin ISD Police Department, Alvarado was taken into custody. Counseling services have been made available to children who have been impacted by the incident, and the district has invited parents who have information that is pertinent to get in touch with the AISD police.
"The safety and well-being of your children are our highest priorities," officials from the AISD noted in a letter to parents, assuring them that the problem was being handled promptly and appropriately.
