On Thursday morning, intense storms hit Central Texas, causing more than 7,000 Austin Energy users to lose power. At 7:27 a.m., the utility said 22 outages affected about 7,713 people, and work was underway to fix them.

Meteorologists have issued a Level 1 severe weather warning, expecting heavy rain, winds over 50 mph, and hail the size of an inch. The National Weather Service mentioned that there could be some isolated storms in the area. Strong winds and falling tree limbs led to outages across multiple neighborhoods.

Austin Energy promised locals that their teams would keep working in the rain to fix power outages, saying on X (formerly Twitter), "It doesn't matter if it's light rain or heavy rain." By 9 a.m., around 2,000 customers still did not have light in six areas because of 25 power outages. By 10 a.m., the number of affected customers fell below 1,000.

With storms continuing, Austin Energy warned residents to stay prepared for additional outages caused by high winds, lightning, and broken tree limbs. The utility company told users to report any power outages and avoid fallen power lines.

While cleanup and restoration work is ongoing, residents are encouraged to keep informed through official weather reports and updates from Austin Energy on X.
