A high school track meet in Frisco, Texas, turned tragic when a 17-year-old student was fatally stabbed during a confrontation on Wednesday morning. The victim has been identified by authorities as Austin Metcalf, a junior attending Memorial High School.
Police report that the conflict started due to seating arrangements at Kuykendall Stadium, where several schools had convened for the event.
According to witnesses, the suspect, 17-year-old Karmelo Anthony, grew agitated when informed that he was in the wrong seat. The situation intensified rapidly, resulting in Anthony reportedly stabbing Metcalf in the chest.
Emergency responders reached the scene at approximately 10 a.m. and provided CPR along with emergency blood transfusions; however, Metcalf ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
Austin's twin brother, Hunter, was close by and saw the stabbing occur. He made a frantic attempt to halt the bleeding, yet his efforts proved futile. Jeff Metcalf, their father, spoke of the unbreakable connection between his sons, noting that Austin arrived just two minutes ahead of Hunter. The family is now enduring a profound and unimaginable loss.
Frisco police have apprehended Anthony and charged him with murder. Authorities are actively pursuing their investigation into the incident, which has left students, teachers, and parents in shock.
“No parent should ever have to endure this,” Jeff Metcalf expressed during a heartfelt interview. “My son is gone, and he will never return home.”
In a time of sorrow, Memorial High School has revealed plans for a vigil to honor Austin. School officials are providing counseling services for students impacted by the tragedy.
