The prevalence of college volleyball has increased significantly in recent years, as evidenced by the record-breaking attendance of 92,003 at a Nebraska match played in a football stadium. In accordance with this trend, Jerritt Elliott, the head coach of the Texas Longhorns volleyball team, expressed confidence in the Moody Center's capacity for forthcoming matches.

Elliott verified during a news conference on Monday that plans are currently in progress to utilize the Moody Center, which can accommodate nearly 16,000 spectators when configured for events. "We are considering performing there next year," he announced, acknowledging that the current ticket demand has surpassed the supply. "My phone is inundated with requests from individuals who wish to participate in the game."

Elliott identified Stanford and Wisconsin as prospective opponents for these matches and Texas A&M as rivals. He is enthusiastic about scheduling nonconference and conference matches at the larger venue, even though specific dates and details have yet to be confirmed.

The Longhorns are currently performing at Gregory Gym, which has a capacity of approximately 4,000 and is used for intimate events. The venue is renowned for its lively ambience, having achieved an attendance record of over 5,000 fans during a 2022 NCAA regional final against Ohio State. The most recent SEC match against Texas A&M in College Station attracted a crowd of 9,236 spectators, the highest attendance for an NCAA volleyball match in Texas.

Elliott believes that the Moody Center can serve as a new home for Longhorn volleyball with the backing of Texas athletic director Chris Del Conte. Elliott stated, "I believe we can secure 16,000 in Moody if he discloses everything." The Longhorns have a 7-3 record and eagerly anticipate their inaugural SEC match at Gregory Gym against South Carolina on September 29.
