The state of Texas is stepping up its attempts to secure its borders in response to Governor Greg Abbott's warnings about the possibility of a "mass migration." State leaders are increasing the number of measures they are doing to discourage unlawful entry, despite the fact that the number of migrant crossings has reached its lowest point in years. This can be ascribed to seasonal factors, federal legislation, and Operation Lone Star.

In an effort to reroute migrants, the state of Texas has installed additional buoy barriers in the Rio Grande River this week. These buoy barriers are bright orange and are one thousand feet in length. Additionally, Texas Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham made the announcement that the state is providing a potentially deportation facility with a block of land in Starr County that is 1,400 acres in size. Buckingham referred to the location as farmland, stating that it was "easy to build on," and perfect for the deportation measures being undertaken by the Trump administration.

Buckingham made the following statement: "We are delighted to offer our resources in order to streamline the process of deporting violent criminals."

In the meantime, Abbott disseminated photographs of Texas military personnel participating in training drills in preparation for what he refers to as a "potential mass migration." The governor stressed the significance of maintaining barriers and improving enforcement, despite the fact that there has been no new information of an increase.

In addition, the Texas legislature is contemplating actions such as establishing a state Department of Homeland Security and allowing the Department of Public Safety the right to deport individuals, both of which are expected to be met with judicial challenges.

In a statement that reaffirmed Texas' dedication to border security, Governor Abbott stated, "We are not letting up."
