A Learjet 35A from Austin went off the runway and crashed into a parked Gulfstream 200 business jet at Scottsdale Municipal Airport on Monday, February 10. One person died, and three were hurt.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) says the crash happened at 2:45 p.m. when the Learjet's landing gear broke while it was landing. The plane, which was owned by Mötley Crüe singer Vince Neil, had two pilots and two guests. Neil wasn't on the trip.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is looking into what went wrong with the landing gear. Experts in commercial flight say that problems like this don't happen often. "To have a failure like this, especially one to be sheared off, there's going to be a lot that's going to be looked into by the NTSB," John Cyrier said.
The crash is the fourth dead plane crash in the U.S. in less than a month, which makes people even more worried about the safety of flying. The event is still being looked into by the authorities, and the aviation community is sad about the deaths.
