On Wednesday, hundreds of protesters gathered at the Texas Capitol in Austin to join a national protest against President Donald Trump's executive orders and Project 2025. The 50501 Movement involved protests in all 50 states against Trump's acts at the beginning of his second term.
Protesters expressed worries about strict immigration laws, government officials, and dangers to democracy and vulnerable groups. Protester Nunez said, "I'm worried about deportations, the negativity in the government, and the racist remarks made toward others."
Activists came from all over Texas, including Mike and Mary Claire Munroe from San Antonio. "We’ve visited our representatives' offices, but we wanted to be in Austin with others," Mike said.
Protester Alexandra Haddix highlighted that the movement started at the community level. We began on Reddit. A few people stood up and said, 'we won't accept this.' That’s what grassroots action is."
Protesters demanded that Trump be impeached, probes into his appointees, and a look into Elon Musk's involvement in government matters.
The Austin Justice Coalition (AJC) spoke out against Trump's policies. Its founder, Chas Moore, described them as "a clear attack on marginalized people." He encouraged the community to "act, come together, and create the future we want."
With rising tensions, the movement shows increasing opposition to Trump's rule, similar to protests happening nationwide.
