Brooke Rollins, the president of the America First Policy Institute and a steadfast ally since 2016, has been nominated by President-elect Donald Trump to serve as Secretary of Agriculture. The third Texan to join Trump's potential cabinet, Rollins, is a Texan who previously served as the head of the Texas Public Policy Foundation.
Rollins has a history of supporting Trump's initiatives, having served on his Economic Advisory Council during his 2016 campaign and subsequently in multiple policy positions during his first term. Trump admired her efforts, stating that she "did an extraordinary job" in furthering his agenda.
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), the nation's food supply, and its agricultural policies are all under the jurisdiction of the Department of Agriculture. It is responsible for the supervision of 106,000 employees and maintains a budget of $213 billion.
Scott Turner, a former Texas state representative who was appointed to the position of Housing and Urban Development, will be joined by Rollins as a recent cabinet appointee. The nominations of both individuals and others such as Elon Musk and U.S. Rep. John Ratcliffe for advisory positions indicate Trump's growing dependence on Texas leadership in his forthcoming administration.
For Rollins' appointment to be considered official, Senate confirmation is necessary.
