Considering that wind chills in the single digits are dangerously low, school districts in the Austin region are reviewing the weather conditions to see whether or not it is necessary to close schools or institute delays. As of now, all schools remain open, but officials say decisions will be made based on road safety, building conditions, and transportation concerns.

The majority of districts, including Austin ISD, Georgetown ISD, and Round Rock ISD, will announce any modifications by eight o'clock in the evening, the night before, or as late as 5 a.m. the morning of classes. Social media, emails, text alerts, and district websites will all be used to disseminate information regarding updates.

Districts like Hutto ISD and Jarrell ISD have reassured families that buses and classrooms will be kept safe and warm. Before making a decision, Blanco Independent School District will first undertake road checks in the early morning hours.

Although no snow or ice is forecast, the extremely low temperatures may nonetheless affect transportation and school operations. As districts continue to analyze the situation tonight, parents are strongly asked to remain vigilant for any updates that may be released.
