As of Friday night, temperatures are expected to drop sharply into the mid-30s. To protect vulnerable people from the cold, the city of Austin is opening Cold Weather Shelters (CWS).

This attempt, which was announced by the City of Austin, is meant to give anyone who needs a warm place to stay during the cold weather one.At the One Texas Center (OTC) at 505 Barton Springs Road, people can sign up for shelters from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Additionally, the City has started a text message alert system to let people know about shelter openings and other news. People who have signed up will get texts with important information about activating the CWS.

The shelters are open to anyone in need, even people who don't have a place to stay, and they provide extra services like meals, storage for things, and areas for pets on leashes. Families with children and teenagers who are not with an adult are given special provisions like hotel vouchers to make sure that no one is left out on these cold nights. Women, couples, and families with children will also be given extra attention.

So that there is enough space and safety, the exact sites of the shelters are kept secret. The One Texas Center, on the other hand, is where most people sign up and where things get organized. You can get more information and help by calling the CWS Hotline at 512-972-5055.

People in Austin are being asked to help those in need by getting the word out about the shelters during this cold spell. Along with other efforts, these show that the city is serious about protecting its weakest people during bad weather.
